Owl Twisted Easel Card

I love the colour purple & I'm growing to like little owls.  I thought this little guy was cute & my craft girls wanted to learn to do a twisted easel card so I decided to make them up as a kit for them.

I cut a 11"x 8.5" as the base card then scored it at 5.5" & again on the diagonal on the left 5.5" square.  I used 4 of the Close To My Heart Cricut cartridges for the Owl, Fancy Square, Branch & the Happy Birthday.  In the Cricut Design Space I laid them all out & cut the whole thing on my Cricut Explore.  I'm learning the software so if I can cut it all out (including the base etc.) then that's more practice for me.  The little Owl was all cut & then paper pieced together & I used 3d foam to build him up a bit & again for the Sentiment so it is then used as a stop for the card when opened.  I had alot of fun doing this card, I wanted to do one with just cut files & no stamping, I inked around the Owl to make him stand out a bit more & inked over the little butterfly & finished him off with some bling, I had to get that in somewhere, I just love to put bling on everything.

The products I used:

Cricut Artfully Sent: Pop-up Cards with Icons

Another card from the Artfully Sent cartridge, I was inspired by another card on Patricia Manhire's blog, she is a very talented consultant from New Zealand.   I just had to make it, the cage & insert layer are found on page 13 of the Artfully Sent cartridge, I just love birdcages & flowers so this was fun to do.
The cage is cut from a colour in the Paper Fundamentals Whimsy Assortment pack, the flowers from the It's the Little Things stamp set are stamped tone on tone & colour on white, they are cut out individually & placed on top of each other some with 3-D foam tape so I could layer them.  Inks I used are Canary, Pixie, Gypsy, Topiary (this is my favourite colour to use for leaves) & Glacier.  For some added texture I embossed the Glacier insert with the Woodgrain Embossing folder.  For the finishing touches I use Durables Artisan Studs on the feet of the cage & for some extra bling I used the Bling Gems Gold assortment & Bitty Sparkels on the flowers.

Take a look at some eye-popping cards made with the Pop-up and Icon functions of Close To My Heart’s Cricut® Artfully Sent collection.

Cricut® Artfully Sent: The Basics

Learn to use Close To My Heart’s Cricut Artfully Sent Cartridge.  Pop on over to my online shop & take a look at this & many other handy tools to make your crafting life easier.

I haven't had the chance to play with the new Artfully Sent Cricut cartridge yet as much as I want to but I did manage to make 2 cards after being inspired by another crafty consultant Patricia Manhire.  There are so many ideas on Pinterest & other crafty blogs & websites to get motivated. This card is found on page 47 of the booklet & cut at the recommended sizing.  I used Glacier cardstock for the base of the card, White Daisy Cardstock for the insert.  I used Santa Claus C1567, Always Grateful C1559 & Merry & Bright (retired) stamp sets.  I'm still trying to master the sponging effect but am getting there, I used Glacier, Indian Corn Blue & Pacifica & Pixie ink pads for the backgrounds, Ponderosa Pine for the trees & Chocolate for Santa & Sleigh. To get the illusion of mountains I got a white piece of cardstock & ripped it into shapes I wanted & used them as a mask for stamping.  I used glitter under the snowflake cutout but CTMH Glitter sheets would look beautiful as well for that bit a bling that's needed.

I have finished off the card with a sentiment on the front & some White Enamel Stars.

My take on the card that was featured in the tutorial for using the All Purpose Mat & mixing inks together.  The Deer & Rabbit can be found on page on page 12 & the background on page 5 of the booklet.  I cut off some of the tree trunks & changed the sentiment.
Go to the post dated 6th November 2014 to see original card.
Always add your own spin on cards & get inspired by everything & everyone.

Artbooking Made Easy: Fun in the Sun

Today marks another “transition”: this will be the final Artbooking Made Easy post.
To go out with a splash, I want to share with you some ideas on how to use the summertime-themed keys for your summer photos and memories. Get a final look at the masterful pieces you’ve come to expect in this series, along with some helpful hints on how to create similar projects by watching the video.
so whether your favorite summer vacation is camping in the woods or swimming in the ocean, the summertime-themed keys on Close To My Heart's Artbooking cartridge will have the perfect cutouts to use in recording all your unforgettable memories. Contact ME your Independent Consultant for more information.

I love this Family Vacation layout, not only because it features beach scenes and embellishments (because who doesn’t love the beach?) but because it incorporates the journaling so creatively. The hexagon numbers are a fun way to match up each adorable photo with a caption, don’t you think?
There is also some fantastic layering used here. A square of B&T, a journal spot, and some cardstock turn this combo of a photo mat into much more than a photo mat—it’s a scene to behold. With the photo atop that, held in place by washi tape and stitching, and a few embellishments more, the entire piece is a little work of art all on its own.
When you work with a busy layout like this one but have details you still want to add, make use of your photo space. Crop a photo so that the focal person isn’t precisely in the center, leaving room for a stamped sentiment or extra accessory over the open space.
Move to the next layout and you’ll notice that though a lot of the same shapes were used, yet the layouts look totally different.

A change in size, paper, placement, and embellishment give every single shape on the Artbooking cartridge multiple looks. With 700 images on the cartridge, that means the possibilities are as high as the sky—a big, blue, open summer sky.

From one artist to another, keep dreaming! You’re as free as you let yourself be in your creativity. It’s my hope that the Cricut® Artbooking cartridge gives you all the right ingredients you need for expanding your artistic world and capturing the moments that matter most.

Jubilee Workshop on the Go Scrapbooking Kit

I made cards and pages for a my workshop on   Friday.  The first 2 cards are Kits included in the cost of my workshop fee.  The Life is Sweet card & the Starburst pages are samples that can be made on the day.

The pleated card inspired by CTMH consultant Bernadette Lewin

I had alot of fun getting inky around all the edges of these cards.  The flowers are cut on the Cricut machine and then rolled using the quilling tool.
The colouring and blending with the CTMH pens is very therapeutical I found.

Want to learn these techniques and more then contact me & come along to one of my workshops and I will show you how.

Artbooking Made Easy: Capturing Snapshots

Wondering what to do with all those snapshots you have lying around? Close To My Heart's Artbooking cartridge's snapshots keys are the perfect way to assemble those photos into one oh-so-memorable mini album. Contact ME your Independent Consultant for all the details!

One of the things I love about the circle overlay is all of the fun stamping you can do with it! Jill showed us how the overlay was used as a stencil all over in this album for this fun, shaded stamp pattern. Try this out with the other overlays to pattern your paper! The best part is that you can still use the cutout, even after you’ve used it as a stencil!
The My Acrylix™ Reel Life stamp set used here comes with three arrows, so you can achieve this fun pattern by just stamping it once in four different colors, cutting out all the pieces, and arranging them however you’d like.

Of course, you can use the cutouts from these keys for other projects besides mini albums, too. On this adorable canvas, all of the shapes were cut using Real Dial Size to make them fit perfectly on the 6" x 6" canvas. The title and the circle half overlay were both cut at 2" RDS, and the photo mat cut at 4 1/2". The camera and the heart were both cut at 1 1/2" RDS. I like how the artist customized the title by leaving off the “photos” from the “My Favorite Photos” pennants on page 40 of the Artbooking booklet.

Artbooking Made Easy: All-Star Scrapbooking

No matter if you’re a baseball, football, basketball, or soccer fan, or just know someone who is, you’re going to want to cheer for today’s episode of Artbooking Made Easy! We’re going to be looking at the teamwork layout keys found on pages 82 and 83 of the Artbooking booklet.  The pennant banner, chevron overlays, star border, and teamwork sentiment cutouts will leave you wanting to do a victory dance! Contact ME your Close To My Heart Independent Consultant for more details.

Let’s take a closer look at the title here. The artist cut it out twice, once in Honey and once in Outdoor Denim, and then layered it to give it the shadow effect. She went one step further and added in that extra detail with a journaling pen, and the result is a home run in my book!
Also, look at how the artist has used the banner border—upside down! It blended in so well with the other elements on the page that I almost missed it, but it’s definitely a winning element on this page, especially since it’s used in a way that you wouldn’t expect.

One thing I want to point out with the baseball, as well as the other balls on the teamwork layout keys, is that there are two ways to cut out these shapes. For example, with the baseball, you can either cut out the shape in white and lay it on top of a red circle to have the stitches show through from underneath (the baseball shown here on the right), or you can cut out the shape in red and lay the cutouts of the red stitches on top of a white circle (the baseball on the left). Whichever look you prefer!

Let’s take a time-out from layouts and move over to home décor. I love simple pieces of home décor, and it’s always a bonus when it’s something you get to decorate yourself!
For soccer balls, basketballs, and baseballs, the circle shape on page 83 is perfect for backing the cutout in a solid shape of a different color. To get that exact football shape, though, you can either just cut the solid shape out by hand, or use the “hide contour” button with Cricut Craft Room® to hide the middle cutouts for a solid base shape.
One little tip as you’re using your Cricut® machine for smaller, intricate cutouts: try using the “flip” function key to cut out your shapes in the mirror image. This will often give you cleaner cuts, especially on the front side of your shapes. Just make sure that if you’re using the double-sided B&T papers, you load the side you want to show face down on the cutting mat.

Artbooking Made Easy: Trailblazing Travel Albums

You can document that unforgettable vacation, getaway, or outing with the travel keys on Close To My Heart's Artbooking cartridge. From artsy airplanes to ticket-like tabs, there are cutouts to accompany any of your travel-themed crafts. Today's Artbooking Made Easy is all about the travel mini-album keys. These keys are found on pages 38 and 39 of the Artbooking booklet, so let’s take a look! Contact ME your Independent Consultant for all the details!

Products Used:
Cricut Artbooking Collection   Z1906
Timberline Assortment  Z3005
Topiary Mini Chevron Ribbon  Z1929
Base & Bling Craft Queen Charms  Z1958
Black & Grey Epoxy Bubbles  Z1935
I love how versatile the Artbooking cartridge is—from just two pages of keys, we saw three totally different looks. Use your favorite colors, embellishments, and shapes to make your projects your own! Let me show you some of the details to inspire you.
I really love the simplicity of this page. Using kraft cardstock, the artist cut out the little geolocation icon and the airplane, and then, using the scallop border punch, created a simple border with the White Daisy and Goldrush cardstock. I love how the look of the scalloped borders matches the shape of the clouds on the next page. Sometimes using simple shapes ties things together nicely. If you have a favorite shape or cutout you’re using, experiment to see what other shapes or borders might coordinate with it.
This overlay from page 39 of the booklet looks great sized down for this card, but I especially love how the artist has decorated it with a unique twist on baker’s twine! These little wheels are easy to create, and I love the way they match the circles on the overlay, the border, and the center of the flowers. And of course, baker’s twine is typically used for tying bows or wrapping around paper, so I love seeing embellishments used in a way you don’t see very often! All you need to create these wheels is some Liquid Glass (or Glue Dots). Apply a circle of Liquid Glass to your paper, and then take your baker’s twine, adhering the end to the center of the circle, and just wrap your way around. Because the baker’s twine already has a twisted design, wrapping it into wheels creates a great multi-dimensional look.

From the "Our Vacation" album, these washi tape ruffles are just too adorable! They add such a fun element to these pages, and they’re so simple to make. Just put two pieces of washi tape together (so that the adhesive sides stick together), fold to create the pleat, and staple one side down along the edge. You can hide the stapled side behind another piece of paper, or just leave it exposed—however you’d like.
If you love the colors of your plain cardstock but want to give it more visual interest, you can always use the same color of ink to stamp backgrounds onto your solid-colored cardstock. The good thing about creating your own patterned paper using stamps is that you control how it looks—you can stamp several times to create a lot of contrast, or you can stamp it lightly to just give a hint of a pattern.

Another thing I love about this page is how the artist used the "Just Be" title in her own way to create a new title! Use your imagination to see what new titles you can come up with.
What inspiring artwork! Feel free to adapt and adjust some of these techniques to work for your own projects.
